Palakkad is a city and municipality in Kerala in south-western India. Palakkad is also called as Palghat. Its situated at 66 kilometers north east of Thrissur and 54 kilometers south west of Coimbatore. State capital Thiruvananthapuram is situated at about 350 kilometers from Palakkad.

As per the 2011 Census, population of Palakkad in 2011 is 130,955; of which 63,833 male and 67,122 females count. Out of the total population Hindus form 68% of the population with 89098 members, whereas Muslims constitute 27.9% of the population with 36620 members. Christians constitute 3.8% of the population with 5006 members. Speaking about literacy count of Palakkad, total literates in Palakkad city are 112,479 of which 56,065 are males while 56,414 are females, hence average literacy rate of Palakkad city is 94.20 percent which reasonably good value, of which male and female literacy was 96.83 and 91.73 percent.

Palakkad is well connected through Rail and Road ways and the nearest airport is in Coimbtore. National highway numbered NH 544(early called as NH 47) passes through the district, connecting Salem and Coimbatore to Thrissur, Ernakulam. Another highway NH 966 passes towards Kozhikode.

Palakkad Town railway station is located at the heart of the town. Whereas Palakkad Junction Railway Station is located at around 4 Km from the town. Palakkad Junction is well connected to Trivandrum, Mangalore, Chennai, Bangalore, etc., whereas trains towards Pollachi goes through Palakkad Town.
